Help While You Wait for RAF Payment

You’ve been in a road accident. Or you’re an attorney fighting for clients who have. The claim has been settled. A court order has been issued or a settlement with RAF has been reached.

But the Road Accident Fund hasn’t paid yet. And waiting is hard.

Medical bills don’t stop. Living costs continue. Law firms need operational funding to keep serving clients. Life doesn’t pause while you wait for the RAF.

We bridge that gap. Claimants can access cash from their settlements now. Attorneys can unlock funding on outstanding fees. No monthly repayments. Settlement aligned to RAF payments.

What is the Road Accident Fund?

The Road Accident Fund (RAF) is a South African state insurer that provides social insurance to all users of South African roads, providing compensation to people injured or killed in road accidents.

When you’re in a road accident, you can claim compensation from the RAF for:

  • Medical expenses and ongoing treatment.
  • Loss of income if you can’t work.
  • General damages for pain and suffering.
  • Other accident-related costs.

Attorneys help you navigate the RAF claims process. Once your claim is settled, either through a court order or settlement, the RAF owes you money.

But the RAF takes a long time to pay. Sometimes months. Sometimes years.

That’s where we come in.

Why We Offer RAF Bridging Finance

We understand the struggle of waiting for money that’s already been awarded to you.

For claimants: You’ve been through trauma. You’re injured. You might not be able to work. Your family depends on you. Medical costs are piling up. School fees are due. You need money now—not in six months or a year.

For attorneys: Your firm operates on contingency. You’ve won cases. Fees are outstanding. But the RAF hasn’t paid. Meanwhile, you need to fund medico-legal reports, cover operational costs, and keep your practice running.

Bridging finance is designed for exactly this situation. You’re not taking on new debt. You’re accessing money that’s already yours—it’s just stuck in the RAF’s payment timeline.

We give you a portion of that money now. When the RAF pays, the advance is settled automatically.

Our RAF Bridging Solutions

We offer two RAF bridging solutions—one for attorneys, one for claimants.

RAF Attorney Advance

For RAF and personal injury law firms.

Attorney Advance unlocks operational funding on settled RAF matters awaiting RAF payment.

  • Fund medico-legal reports and expert assessments.
  • Cover operational costs: salaries, office expenses, disbursements.
  • Support growth and capacity without sacrificing cash flow.
  • Maintain strong client service during long RAF waiting periods.

RAF and personal injury attorneys with settled matters (court orders or settlement agreements) where the RAF has not yet paid. You must have outstanding fees on contingency cases.

You apply with details of settled matters. We assess. You receive funding as a percentage of outstanding fees. Settlement is aligned to RAF payments per matter—no monthly repayments.

It’s extremely important to understand who qualifies for RAF bridging finance.

You qualify if:

  • You are a registered RAF or personal injury attorney in South Africa.
  • You have settled matters with court orders or agreements.
  • The RAF has not yet paid on those matters.
  • You have outstanding contingency fees due.
  • Your firm needs operational funding.

Important: Attorney Advance is for law firms, not individual claimants.

RAFPay

For RAF claimants

RAFPay gives claimants cash now from their RAF settlement while they wait for the RAF to pay.

  • Medical bills and ongoing treatment costs.
  • Daily living expenses: food, electricity, rent, transport.
  • Children’s school fees and education costs.
  • Loss of income compensation if you can’t work.
  • Any other urgent needs while you wait.

RAF claimants with a finalised court order or settlement agreement where the RAF has not yet paid. You must have an attorney representing you.
Important: You need an attorney to apply for RAFPay. If you don’t have one, we can help you find one.

Your attorney applies for you. We review your court order or agreement. You receive cash. The money goes to your attorney’s trust account. Your attorney pays you—sometimes in monthly instalments. When the RAF pays, your attorney settles RAFPay automatically.

You qualify if:

  • You were injured in a road accident in South Africa.
  • You have a finalised court order or settlement agreement.
  • Your RAF claim has been awarded (amount decided).
  • The RAF has not yet paid.
  • You have an attorney representing you.

Critical requirement: You must have an attorney. RAFPay works through your attorney to protect you and ensure everything is handled correctly.

Don’t have an attorney? Contact us and we’ll help you find one who can assist with your RAF claim and RAFPay application.

Why Choose Taurus Capital For RAF Bridging

We Understand Your Struggles

For claimants: You’ve been in a collision. You’re waiting for money that you have been awarded. But the RAF takes months—even years. Bills are piling up. Your family needs support. You might not be able to work. Medical costs don’t stop.

You’re not asking for charity. You’re asking for access to money that’s already yours.

For attorneys: You’ve fought for your clients. You’ve won their cases. Your fees are outstanding. But you’re waiting for the RAF to pay. Meanwhile, new cases need funding. Reports must be commissioned. Operational costs continue.

Your practice’s success is held hostage by RAF payment delays.

We understand both situations. That’s why we built RAF bridging solutions specifically for you.

How RAF Bridging Finance Works

For Attorneys (Attorney Advance)

You apply with details of settled matters awaiting RAF payment.

We assess using our proprietary assessment framework for RAF firms.

You receive funding as a percentage of outstanding fees.

When RAF pays on each matter, the advance is settled per matter. No monthly repayments.

For Claimants (RAFPay)

Talk to your attorney about RAFPay.

Your attorney applies with your court order or settlement agreement.

We review and approve (usually within a few days).

When everything is approved, we will contact you directly and explain to you:

  • How much money you will get from RAFPay.
  • How much it will cost.
  • How the money will be paid.
  • What happens when the RAF finally pays.

You must agree before we send any money. We want you to understand everything clearly. Your attorney can also guide you if you are unclear on the terms.

We send the RAFPAY money into a bank account of your choice, after your attorney has confirmed they are happy for us to advance the funds to you.

When the RAF pays your attorney, your attorney will:

  • Take out their legal fees (this was already agreed).
  • Pay back the RAFPay amount plus the cost.
  • Give you the rest of your RAF money.

You don’t need to pay us back yourself. Your attorney handles everything. You just receive the balance of your RAF money.
